Mount Yoshino Midnight Moon

3

This is an illustration where Iga no Tsubone confronts a ghost called Sasaki Kiyotaka at Mount Yoshino. Tsubone wears a red cloth and there stands the ghost in a fierce form.

The illustration is from Tsukioka Yoshitoshi, who is a popular Japanese artist from the 19th century. His works are dated from when Japan was under a big change in the society.

The print is from the One Hundred Aspects of the Moon, which is a design series from the 1880s.
